Today is Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day!

What’s your Unique Talent? (In Capital Letters, no less!) Everyone has at least one. Are you extremely empathetic? Or apathetic? Can you perform a triple lutz with a backhand twist? (Don’t bother googling that – I made it up :-) ) Do people gather around you as soon as you arrive at a party to listen to your witty repartee? Can you outcook Chef Emeril?

I think my Unique Talent is embracing change. Heck, I don’t just embrace it, I give it a bear hug! I haven’t stayed in the same job for more than 7 years. I went from a desktop publisher to a molecular biology lab tech. When I was younger and just divorced, I moved every year. And bought a different car just about as often.

I’m constantly thinking “What should I do next?”. Boredom is my enemy and novelty is my holy grail.

My significant other worked at the same company for 32 years. 32 years!!! My mind boggles at that. He would just about have an apoplectic fit when I would start to murmur something like, “Hmmmm, I’ll bet working with dolphins would be great fun!”.

Don’t know what your Unique Talent is?

Well, think about something that you do, a lot, that other people keep trying to talk you out of. It’s a pretty sure bet that THAT is your Unique Talent.

Like, do you get really excited when you spy a green, eight legged bug that you’ve never seen before? When you pick it up to examine it more closely, do those around you say “Ewww, put that disgusting thing down! Are you crazy?”.

Or, if you’re constantly being teased because you enjoy turning lingerie into lamps, and you keep doing it anyway – that could be your Unique Talent! (Don’t laugh. Kelly Kerrigan does just that!)

Don’t be afraid to share your Unique Talent with the world. Or at least with me. So, what’s YOUR Unique Talent?
