Be a Better Virtual Assistant by Exercising

No, I don’t mean by exercising your right to vote, or exercising your faith, or even exercising your dog. I mean exercising your body!

When you do aerobic exercise, you shove oxygen up into your brain. Oxygen that it needs to create new memories. It also helps you be happier and more relaxed. Amazing stuff, exercise!

I know if I don’t exercise, in a few days my brain starts to get that fuzzy, “where am I and why am I here?” feeling. I’m actually more tired if I don’t exercise, which seems backwards, but it’s true!

I find that my best ideas happen while I’m exercising, too. Maybe it’s because I’m not sitting at my desk trying to force myself to be creative. (Creativity apparently doesn’t like to be pressured.) When I’m doing an exercise video that I’ve done many times before, my mind gets to wander around in those musty, unused parts of my brain. (I must have lots of those.) I pick an untapped fact here, a long-lost memory there, and put them together. Voila! A new idea! Possibly even a solution to a client’s problem. Now that could be worth something :-)

Give exercise a try. Let me know if it makes a difference for you and your business.

Melodee, thanks for this very important reminder that keeping our bodies active helps our brains to be more active. In the summer, I often take a walk before starting my workday, and although this means I start working later, I actually get more done. It’s hard to say whether it’s because I feel I have to more productive to make up the time, or because my brain is functioning better, but I know I’m benefiting either way, and so is my business.

Yes, Janet, exercise is great but I could use a technique for getting me out of bed early enough (especially in the winter) to have time to do it before I start working. It’s HARD to leave that cozy warmth :-)

Do you have a cat? Mine wakes me up to feed her around 6 AM. Sometimes I can ignore her, but once my little brain starts churning, there’s no hope for me, so I just get up.

No cat for me – unless I’m staying at a client’s home while she’s traveling. Then I take care of her business, house and cat (Bud). She must get up earlier than I do cuz Bud is always yelling at me long before I’m ready to get up. I just ignore him :-)

Oh, that’s nothing. For fun I’ll move his water dish so he has to search for it :-)

    Hi Melodee -

Here’s a website to check out (my sister originally sent me the link). It so ties into your post! (Especially “Brain Rules #1″, which is all about exercise!)

(Did I already send this to you? I can’t remember, because I OBVIOUSLY don’t get enough exercise!!!)
