About

Melodee Patterson, Virtual AssistantMy name is Melodee Patterson. I started Short-term Solutions, LLC, in 2006 in order to use my varied background in business and science. I was a computer programmer and systems analyst back in the days of COBOL and mainframes. I then ran my own desktop publishing business called Micro Designs for a number of years where I learned the ins and outs of designing newsletters and brochures, as well as working with printers and mailing houses.

Then I received an Associate degree as a lab technician and spent the next seven years working in a molecular biology start-up company. I used my previously gained knowledge to assist the company in its growth by creating databases, designing and printing scientific posters, and designing ads for scientific journals, as well as working in the lab. Since receiving a Certificate in Bioinformatics, I used Perl scripts, biocomputing tools, and biological databases to perform data analysis on metagenomic sequences of bacteria and viruses.

In keeping with my love of learning and my desire to help others, I became a Virtual Assistant and started Short-term Solutions. I enjoy the partnerships that I am creating with my clients, and I’m looking forward to helping more clients grow their businesses!

I spun off StS Scientific in 2008 in order to provide a focused website for my prospective biotechnology clients that are primarily concerned with my bioinformatics skills. You can see a listing of my publications and posters here. You can also see my CV here.

I started this blog to help other VAs and their clients on their journey through the new reality of Virtual Assistance. Please enjoy the posts and leave comments and questions about anything that is on your mind. Or feel free to email me.
