Oatmeal Topping Ideas You Won’t Believe!
I love oatmeal. I love Quaker Old Fashioned Rolled Oats…with brown sugar and cinnamon and vanilla extract. I put the oats into the cold water so it cooks up nice and creamy. I’ll usually throw in some golden raisins, or Craisins right away, too, so they’ll be nice and plump when the oatmeal is done.
I know others put different ingredients into their oatmeal. A waitress in Arizona talked me into trying peanut butter in it, but I can’t say that I was impressed.
And I’ve heard that some people add sliced bananas or blueberries and I’ve considered trying those, but I had a real epiphany yesterday when I happened across Quaker’s website. They have a page dedicated to toppings for oatmeal that anyone can add to! By the time I worked my way down the page through over 200 topping ideas, I was famished. I couldn’t wait to get up this morning to try out what I think is the best oatmeal topping ever conceived in the whole history of mankind.
Here’s a sample of the ideas you’ll find on the website. See if you can pick out the one I tried this morning
- blackstrap molasses, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg
- orange marmalade
- oatmeal cookies
- trail mix
- chopped apple and pumpkin pie spice
- peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
- pumpkin puree, walnuts and maple syrup
- 1 perfect piece of Dove Dark Chocolate
You guessed it! Who would have thought that chocolate and oatmeal would compliment each other so well? Some other great ingredients were cocoa and chocolate milk. Yum!
Of course, there’s always some weirdos in the crowd:
- chopped peppers, ginger, coriander leaves and plain yogurt
- salsa
- soy sauce and chopped green onions
- and my favorite: Tabasco sauce and bread & butter pickles
Don’t those sound yummy?
Come on! What’s your favorite oatmeal topping?

My New BFF: A Vertical Mouse
I got an extra bonus at my dentist’s last month. And I mean even more than the wonderful cookies that they have waiting as you walk out. (Yes – I said cookies!)
I noticed a couple of the women at the front desk were using a weird-looking mouse. It looked more like a joy stick than a mouse. They said their wrists were feeling much better since they started using it. It kept their mousing arm and wrist in a neutral position, instead of twisting them.
I’ve been having some pain in my mousing wrist lately that would go away if I stayed off of the computer for at least a day. (Next to impossible for me, of course.) I’d tried wrist pads and even started learning keyboard shortcuts to keep my mousing to a minimum, but that wasn’t helping as much as I’d hoped.
I love trying out new gadgets, so as soon as I got home I popped online and looked for the mouse on ebay (my first stop to shop for anything) and there it was – the Evoluent Vertical Mouse 3 – Buy It Now – Free shipping – Click!
It arrived in about a week. Then it took another week for me to become comfortable with it. (No remarks concerning old dogs…new tricks, please.) I shut off the programming to the bottom button which was set to go “forward” – handy for Internet work, but I kept pushing it accidentally so I had to turn it off.
Within a week, my wrist pain was gone. And I mean gone! I can even do push ups without holding onto hand weights to keep my wrists straight. And when I get my massage (ahhhhh – heaven) I don’t have a big knot in my forearm anymore. It’s a miracle!!
Bottom line – if you’re having pain in your mousing arm or wrist – give this mouse a try. And let me know if it helps you as much as it did me.

Add These Blogs to Your Feed
It’s time for another list of my favorite blogs.
This time it’s not going to be just Virtual Assistant blogs. I’m listing a few of the sixty-some blogs that I pull into my Outlook RSS feed folder. (Maybe I should ask Mrs. Malapert to post a tutorial on how easy it is to do that. Hmmm…)
Try some of these:
- From the Desk of Janet Barclay – Still one of my favorites. You’ll get tips about everything under the sun here. Janet is a prolific blogger, so you can also find her at:
- Your Organizing Business – and:
- OnlineOrganizing.com – and probably a few more that I don’t know about!
- Someday Syndrome – by Alex Fayle has the tagline “Procrastination. Choice. Happiness.” which is exactly what he writes about. And, Alex will be posting an interview with ME in August so you better grab his RSS feed now!
- Barbara Stanny – has an amazing blog about “revolutionizing women’s relationship with money.” A must read for every woman.
- SCORE Women’s Success Blog – If you’re a business woman, you need to subscribe to this blog. There’s great business tips of all kinds here from a handful of women bloggers.
- The Baby Boomer Entrepreneur – Andrea Stenberg is a social media guru. You’ll find her everywhere and her blog reflects that! If you’re a Boomer (like me) you have to check her out.
- Problogger – Darren Rowse is Blogger Extraordinaire. Trying to write a blog without reading his is like eating a hot fudge sundae without the hot fudge.
- The Briefing Room – And don’t forget to keep up-to-date with what’s going on at the White House. This blog gives you links to the weekly presidential address and gives you timely information about the economic recovery package, health care reform and all the rest.
That’s all I have time to list today. If you know of some great blogs, please leave the name in a comment so I can check them out. You can never have too many blogs in your RSS folder, you know
